AGRARPROJEKT- CSA PROJEKT-NIGERIA

Cost-effective climate-smart agriculture, the best solution for sustainable agriculture in Nigeria.

Project Location: Oluyole Local Government, Airport Road

Hunger and malnutrition are a typical problem in developing countries, despite significant increases in productivity and successful efforts to combat famine. The reason for this is that agriculture is unable to provide the rapidly growing population with sufficient quantities of food.

The Climate Smart Agricultural Project (CSA) aims to promote the adoption of new and improved climate-smart agricultural practices. Choosing high-yielding seeds is the key ingredient for smallholder farmers to achieve a good harvest. Smallholder farmers will learn other aspects such as irrigation, soil fertility, and weed control during the project. This intervention will help improve the income and yields of the 20 selected smallholder farmers in Oluyole Local Government Areas in Oyo State, Nigeria. Furthermore, smallholder farmers will have easy access to suppliers of hybrid seeds and mixes for their farms, and they will also be able to sell their crops directly without intermediaries. These factors will increase both farmers‘ incomes and food availability in Oluyole Local Government Areas in Oyo State.

The project will contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals Part 2 “Zero Hunger” “Sustainable Development Goals 2”, namely to end hunger in all its forms by 2030 and achieve food security in Oyo State.

The project runs from April 1, 2022, to October 30, 2024. The Saarland Ministry of Education and Culture and the „Interkulturelles Haus Saar e. V.“ are jointly supporting the agricultural project with our partner organization, the „Itesiwaju Fadama Farmers Association.“
